Welcome to Desert Bus Speedway! Please review the controls before playing, lest you wind up lost and confused on the home world of Emperor Zoltar himself!

About

Harkening back to the classic arcade racing feel of games like Daytona USA and Cruisin' Exotica, Desert Bus Speedway seeks to capture the essence of racing and what makes driving fun. Three tracks await you, each ready to test your mettle with their own unique layout and theme . Easy to learn, difficult to perfect!

This bus is exclusively manual transmission, as all racing should be - if you're not familiar with how to use a clutch, don't worry, it's easy! Let go of the gas, hold down on the clutch, and shift up or down as your little heart desires, and then release the clutch - it's really that easy! I promise, it'll make the racing experience that much more engaging and satisfying to master!

Desert Bus Speedway was designed and developed in one week for the Desert Bus for Hope 2021 Game Jam. Due to whosever twisted soul submitted this year's theme of "Long Haul", I have added and painstakingly playtested the 50 lap Long Haul mode for each level. For any masochists I mean, racing enthusiasts out there, try to beat the Long Haul mode on all three levels!

This is my personal winner. Liked every second of it. And I need this soundtrack to be in my Spotify favourites NOW. ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks Sweet Lizard, happy to hear you enjoyed it!! I'm really happy with how things turned out this year, so I'm glad you were able to have some fun with it!

Thanks for the compliment!! I consider my music to be one of my weaker game dev points, I expected more people to mute it ๐Ÿ˜… I'm working on untangling the mysterious beast that is FL Studio though, so if you found this music to be enjoyable, hopefully you'll like what I'm cooking up for future projects!

I can't complete the easy track, because the bus keeps getting stuck underneath the track during the bumpy part, which causes the time extension to not trigger.

Also, please don't bunch all the controls together on letters when implementing keyboard controls. It's really awkward to have both hands pressing buttons in the area, and depending on the playing to be separately able to move all their fingers on their left hand (which is statistically likely to be their off-hand) is not a good idea. Especially, please don't put buttons that end the race embedded between steering controls. That maximizes the chance that the player will accidentally quit out while doing well.

Hey Colin, thanks for checking out the game! Sorry to hear about the issues. We tested the build on four computers and didn't run into any issues with the bus falling off of the track, so I'm afraid I can't offer much help there.

For the keyboard controls, my priority number 1 was to make it so that you didn't have to move your hand, and my priority number 2 was to make it so that you were aware of how to reset / return to menu in the event something goes wrong. Statistically speaking, people never read up on the controls ๐Ÿ˜… so in the case where I didn't have enough time to make a proper pause menu, I opted for people possibly accidentally resetting the game instead of not knowing how to pause, getting frustrated, and Alt+F4ing as the lesser of two evils. Whether you agree with that choice or not is completely fine, but either way thanks again for playing! ๐Ÿ™‚
